Arkansas Commercial Contractors License Bond

Every Arkansas commercial contractor and commercial registered subcontractor must file a $10,000 surety bond with the Contractors Licensing Board before the license is valid. The Board’s official form implements A.C.A. § 17-25-401 et seq. and binds the licensee to pay amounts due under that chapter. This instrument is separate from the optional classification-based bond that can replace a financial statement.

Renewal

Keep on file; 60-day surety cancellation notice to you and the Board

Who requires it

Applicants and licensees for Arkansas commercial contractor licenses and commercial registered subcontractor credentials administered by the Contractors Licensing Board. Residential roofing registrants use a different $15,000 bond. Ordinary residential builder licenses are not this $10,000 commercial instrument.

How much is required

The Board’s commercial bond form fixes a single $10,000 amount for covered commercial contractors and commercial registered subcontractors. The amount does not vary by commercial classification. Classification instead drives net-worth and optional bond-in-lieu amounts on a different form.

How to get and file it

Have an Arkansas-licensed resident or non-resident insurance producer or surety complete the Board’s $10,000 bond form with the company’s exact name and EIN as registered for the license, then file it with the commercial application or renewal package. Keep the bond on file for a valid license. The surety may cancel with sixty days’ written notice to you and the Board. Replace coverage before cancellation becomes effective so the license does not fall out of compliance.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as the bond in lieu of a financial statement?

No. The $10,000 bond is the required commercial compliance surety. The bond-in-lieu of financial statement is optional, uses much larger classification faces, and only substitutes for the net-worth financial statement under § 17-25-304.

Do residential roofers use this $10,000 form?

No. Residential roofing registrants file the separate $15,000 Residential Roofing Registrant Surety Bond under § 17-25-604.
