Arkansas Motor Vehicle Dealer Bond

Arkansas dealer bonding depends on which license you hold. The Arkansas Motor Vehicle Commission requires a $50,000 bond for new auto, truck, or RV dealers and a $25,000 bond for new motorcycle, ATV, scooter, or motor vehicle lessor licenses, each on the Commission’s approved form. Used motor vehicle dealers, wholesalers, and auto auctions licensed under Ark. Code § 23-112-607 post at least $25,000, or one $100,000 bond covering every licensed location.

Who requires it

Applicants and licensees for AMVC new motor vehicle dealer and related lessor credentials, and for Arkansas State Police used motor vehicle dealer, wholesaler, or auto auction licenses under the Used Motor Vehicle Buyers Protection Act. Confirm which agency licenses your operation before ordering a bond.

How much is required

AMVC policy sets fixed amounts by product line: $50,000 for auto, truck, or RV dealerships and $25,000 for motorcycle, ATV, lessor, or scooter dealerships. Section 23-112-607 sets a minimum $25,000 used-dealer bond and expressly allows a single $100,000 multi-location bond in place of separate $25,000 instruments. Amounts do not scale with unit sales on these schedules.

How to get and file it

Identify the licensing agency and product line. Have an authorized Arkansas surety complete the AMVC-approved form or the State Police used-dealer form at the correct amount in the exact licensed name, then file the original with the matching application package. Keep the bond in force for the license term. Used-dealer statute language pays judgments from Arkansas courts for covered violations; claims cannot exceed the bond amount. Replace promptly if the surety cancels so the license does not lapse for lack of a bond.

Cost note

Twenty-five thousand, fifty thousand, or one hundred thousand dollars is the required bond amount, not the premium you pay. See bond amount vs premium. Bond amount vs premium →

Frequently asked questions

Can one bond cover every Arkansas used-car lot I operate?

Yes, under § 23-112-607. A multi-location used-dealer applicant may post one $100,000 bond covering all licensed locations instead of separate $25,000 bonds.

Does a new RV dealer use the same amount as a motorcycle dealer?

No. AMVC dealer procedure materials put auto, truck, and RV dealerships on the $50,000 track and motorcycle, ATV, lessor, and scooter dealerships on the $25,000 track.
