Every person appointed and commissioned as an Oklahoma notary public. Notarial acts are not authorized until the Secretary of State has received and approved the bond package.
Secretary of State notary guidance and the amended 49 O.S. § 2 set a fixed ten-thousand-dollar amount. Older statute reprints that still show a one-thousand-dollar figure are superseded—current SOS materials require $10,000. The bond must begin on its effective date and end on the commission expiration date.
After the commission issues, purchase a $10,000 surety for the exact commission dates (or use qualifying individual sureties as SOS allows), complete the oath of office, loyalty oath, official signature, and seal impression, and file the package with the Secretary of State with the $25 filing fee within sixty days. File within sixty days of commission issuance or the commission is at risk. Renewals require a new application no earlier than six weeks before expiration and a new notarial bond covering the next four-year term. Do not notarize until the Secretary of State has approved the filed bond and oaths.
Ten thousand dollars is the required bond amount, not the premium you pay. See bond amount vs premium. The Secretary of State also collects a twenty-five-dollar bond filing fee. Bond amount vs premium →
No. Current Secretary of State guidance requires a $10,000 bond. Rely on the SOS notary FAQs and the amended statute rather than older $1,000 reprints.
Not until the Secretary of State has received and approved your bond, oaths, signature, and seal impression. That filing must occur within sixty days of issuance.
