Oklahoma Construction Industries Board Contractor Bond

Oklahoma electrical, mechanical, and plumbing contractors who want an active Construction Industries Board license must post a five-thousand-dollar surety bond payable to the Board. Until the bond and the required liability certificate arrive, a newly examined contractor license stays inactive.

Who requires it

Individuals seeking or holding an active plumbing, electrical, or mechanical contractor license with the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board. The bond must name the individual license holder. Journeyman and apprentice credentials follow different activation paths and are not this $5,000 contractor instrument.

How much is required

The Board’s active-contractor requirements fix the surety at five thousand dollars for each indicated license type on the Board’s license bond form. Plumbing industry regulations also allow an active plumbing contractor to satisfy the same five-thousand-dollar security with cash or a certificate of deposit held for bonding purposes. A separate commercial general liability certificate of at least $50,000 is required alongside the bond and is not a substitute for it.

How to get and file it

After exams are passed, have an Oklahoma-authorized surety complete the Construction Industries Board License Bond Form for five thousand dollars in the individual licensee’s legal name, marking each electrical, mechanical, or plumbing license type covered. File the original bond with signatures, seals, and power of attorney with the Board, and send a matching general-liability certificate naming the Construction Industries Board as certificate holder. The surety must stay in force while licensed and give at least thirty days’ written cancellation notice to the Board. Keep liability insurance current and update the Board when policies renew—lapsed insurance inactivates the license. If the surety cancels, arrange a replacement before the effective date so the contractor credential does not drop to inactive status.

Cost note

Five thousand dollars is the required bond amount (or cash/CD) per license type indicated, not the premium you pay. See bond amount vs premium. Bond amount vs premium →

Frequently asked questions

Can one bond cover electrical and plumbing licenses?

The Board’s license bond form lets you mark more than one license type and states a five-thousand-dollar sum for each type indicated. Confirm with the Bonds and Insurance Unit how multi-license filings should be completed before ordering.

Is this a general contractor bond for every building trade?

No. This page covers the Construction Industries Board electrical, mechanical, and plumbing active-contractor surety. Oklahoma does not publish a single statewide general-contractor license bond of the type covered here; other trades and cities may have separate rules.
