Missouri Money Transmitter Bond

Missouri money-transmission licensees must keep a director-satisfactory surety bond under the Money Transmission Modernization Act. Section 361.1002 sizes the amount at not less than one hundred thousand dollars and can raise it to five hundred thousand dollars based on average daily Missouri transmission liability.

Who requires it

Missouri Division of Finance — Money Transmission

Common bond amount

$100,000–$500,000

Greater of $100,000 or 100% of average daily MO liability (3-month), capped at $500,000; or $100,000 if tangible net worth > 10% of assets.

How you file

Surety bond in a form satisfactory to the director (NMLS)

Renewal

Maintain continuously while licensed; recalculate when not on the $500,000 maximum

Who requires it

Applicants and licensees for a Missouri money transmission license under §§ 361.900–361.1035. File and maintain the bond through the Division of Finance’s NMLS money-transmission path (legacy NMLS label may still read “Sale of Checks and Money Transmitter”).

How much is required

Section 361.1002 requires the greater of $100,000 or one hundred percent of average daily money-transmission liability in Missouri for the most recently completed three-month period, up to $500,000. If tangible net worth exceeds ten percent of total assets, the required bond is $100,000. Maintaining the $500,000 maximum relieves the licensee from calculating average daily liability for this section.

How to get and file it

Size the bond to § 361.1002 using your Missouri liability figures or the high-net-worth alternative, have an authorized surety execute a form satisfactory to the director, and upload it with the NMLS money-transmission application or renewal checklist items. Maintain the bond at all times while licensed. Recalculate average daily liability when you are not on the $500,000 maximum or the high-net-worth $100,000 path, and keep NMLS document uploads current for renewals.

The statutory amount is the required bond amount, not the premium you pay. See bond amount vs premium. Bond amount vs premium →
