Mississippi public adjuster applicants must show fifty thousand dollars of coverage before the Insurance Department issues a license. MID Regulation 2007-4 and 19 Miss. Code R. 1-36.05 allow either a surety bond or an errors-and-omissions policy in that amount. 2025 amendments also recognize a minimum fifty-thousand-dollar bond payable to the State or an irrevocable letter of credit kept for the duration of the license.

Applicants for and holders of Mississippi individual or business-entity public adjuster licenses who must keep qualifying coverage in force with the Mississippi Insurance Department.
The published MID licensing rule and Exhibit A bond form fix the surety at fifty thousand dollars. HB 1174’s amendments to §83-17-511 likewise set a minimum fifty-thousand-dollar surety bond or irrevocable letter of credit. Qualifying errors-and-omissions coverage in the same amount remains an alternative path described in the Department’s licensing instructions and regulation.
Decide whether you will use the MID public-adjuster bond form, an irrevocable letter of credit, or a qualifying E&O policy. If using a bond, have an authorized surety complete Exhibit A for $50,000 payable to the Commissioner of Insurance and file it with the license application as MID directs. Keep the chosen coverage active for renewals. Keep the bond, letter of credit, or E&O documentation while licensed. Cancellation generally requires advance written notice—HB 1174 specifies at least thirty days’ notice to the licensee. Replace coverage before the notice period ends so the license does not lose the required coverage.

Not necessarily. MID’s licensing rule allows either a $50,000 bond or a $50,000 errors-and-omissions policy. Statutory amendments also recognize an irrevocable letter of credit meeting the same minimum. Choose the path MID accepts for your file and keep documentation current.

Mississippi mortgage brokers and mortgage lenders licensed under the S.A.F.E. Mortgage Act must keep a bond covering each mortgage loan originator affiliated with the company. As amended effective July 1, 2025, Miss. Code §81-18-11 sets the initial amount at fifty thousand dollars for a mortgage broker and two hundred fifty thousand dollars for a mortgage lender. Renewal amounts are set by the commissioner by rule based on prior-year loan activity and may not exceed those statutory caps.

Mississippi vehicle dealers answer to two bonding tracks. The Department of Revenue licenses dealers—including wholesale-only shops—as designated agents and requires a Bond of Designated Agent of at least fifteen thousand dollars under Title 35 dealer regulations and the MDOR application packet. Separately, applicants for new motor vehicle dealer licenses with the Mississippi Motor Vehicle Commission must file a twenty-five-thousand-dollar bond under Miss. Code §63-17-75, or a one-hundred-thousand-dollar bond covering every licensed location of the same capacity.
