Idaho HVAC Contractor Bond
Idaho HVAC contractors and HVAC specialty contractors must provide a two-thousand-dollar compliance bond—or acceptable corporate industry group bond coverage—under Idaho Code § 54-5007. The Idaho Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Board, administered through DOPL, treats the bond as a condition of the contractor certificate of competency. This instrument is not the plumbing contractor bond; plumbing uses a separate board statute and application path.

Who requires it
Individuals or business entities applying for or holding an Idaho HVAC contractor or HVAC specialty contractor certificate of competency. DOPL’s HVAC contractor application requires bond proof after the contractor examination passes and before the license issues.

Complete the DOPL HVAC contractor application and examination path. Keep the bond effective for the contractor licensing period. Renew or replace coverage when the certificate renews so the HVAC Board always has current proof on file.

Does an Idaho HVAC bond also cover plumbing work?
No. Plumbing contractors answer to the Plumbing Board under chapter 26 and must post a separate $2,000 plumbing compliance bond. Holding an HVAC certificate bond does not satisfy the plumbing contractor requirement.
Can a group industry bond replace the individual HVAC surety?
Section 54-5007 allows evidence of coverage by a corporate industry group bond acceptable to the HVAC Board as an alternative to furnishing an individual $2,000 bond.

Idaho Code § 54-2606 authorizes the Plumbing Board to require that bond (or acceptable industry group coverage). Idaho vehicle and vessel dealers must file a performance bond with the Idaho Transportation Department before the dealer license issues. Idaho Code § 49-1608 sets three amounts: ten thousand dollars for dealers that sell only motorcycles, motor-driven cycles, motorbikes, ATVs, utility-type vehicles, truck campers, and snow machines; forty thousand dollars for wholesale-only used-vehicle dealers; and twenty thousand dollars for all other dealers. A surety bond from an Idaho-licensed company, a certificate of deposit, or a cash deposit with the director may satisfy the requirement.
Public Adjuster Bond

Before Idaho issues a public adjuster license—and while that license remains active—the applicant must keep twenty thousand dollars of financial responsibility on file with the Department of Insurance. Idaho Code § 41-5812 accepts either a surety bond from an insurer authorized in Idaho or an irrevocable letter of credit from a qualified financial institution. When that security ends or becomes impaired, the adjuster’s authority to act stops automatically until replacement proof is accepted.
