New Jersey Master HVACR Contractor Bond
A Master HVACR contractor licensed under New Jersey’s HVACR Contracting License Law must post a $3,000 surety bond before doing HVACR work in the state. N.J.S.A. 45:16A-23 sets that amount and bars municipalities from demanding a duplicate local bond for the same act.

Who requires it
Master HVACR contractors licensed under N.J.S.A. 45:16A-1 et seq. need the bond before undertaking HVACR work statewide. Board rules also collect the bond (or proof of an already-filed master-plumber bond) when issuing the license and pressure seal. Holding only an electrical or unrelated trade license does not substitute for this HVACR instrument.
How much is required
N.J.S.A. 45:16A-23 and N.J.A.C. 13:32A-2.4 both establish the $3,000 amount. There is no volume tier for this product. If you already filed a $3,000 master-plumber bond with the State Board of Examiners of Master Plumbers, N.J.A.C. 13:32A-2.4 allows you to meet the HVACR bond requirement by proving that filing—still one $3,000 plumber bond serving as proof, not a second HVACR amount.
How to get and file it
Purchase a $3,000 bond through a New Jersey–authorized surety approved by the Department of Banking and Insurance, conditioned on faithful performance of the HVACR act, and file it with the State Board of Examiners of HVACR Contractors—or submit proof that your master-plumber $3,000 bond is already on file with the plumbers board if you qualify for that path. Board reinstatement packets ask for a bond covering the current biennial renewal cycle. Statute requires a 12-month term renewed at each expiration. Coordinate renewals with Master HVACR license and pressure-seal maintenance so the Board always has current security. Municipalities may not add a similar HVACR bond on top of this statewide filing.

Often no new face is needed: N.J.A.C. 13:32A-2.4 lets proof of the plumber $3,000 bond satisfy the HVACR filing. Confirm with the HVACR Board that your plumber bond is accepted for your file.
Is this the same as home-improvement additional security?
No. HVACR is a Title 45 license bond. HICB/HECB additional security under N.J.S.A. 56:8-142 is a separate registration requirement with different amounts.
