New Hampshire Money Transmitter Bond

Money transmission licensees under RSA chapter 399-G must keep a bond—or an approved deposit—on file with the Banking Department. RSA 399-G:27 sets the amount at the greater of $100,000 or 100% of average daily New Hampshire money-transmission liability for the most recent three-month period, up to $500,000. A deposit the commissioner approves may replace the bond. If you already keep the $500,000 maximum, you do not have to recalculate the amount each quarter. The bond protects people harmed by chapter violations. The surety must give 30 days’ notice before canceling.

Who requires it

Applicants for and holders of New Hampshire money transmission licenses under RSA 399-G, filing through NMLS with the Banking Department.

How much is required

Compare $100,000 to 100% of average daily New Hampshire money-transmission liability for the latest completed three-month period, then take the greater amount, not exceeding $500,000. Licensees that already keep the maximum do not have to recalculate liability for this section. The commissioner may approve a deposit instead of a bond.

How to get and file it

Confirm the required amount under RSA 399-G:27, then have an authorized surety file a form the Banking Department accepts—typically through NMLS—or arrange a commissioner-approved deposit. Match the business name to the NMLS company record. Keep the bond or deposit in place while licensed. The surety must give the Banking Department 30 days’ written notice before canceling. If a claim is filed, file a replacement right away.

Cost note

The statutory amount is the required bond amount, not the premium you pay. See bond amount vs premium. Bond amount vs premium →
